Wichita, KS: Air Capital Classic’s Gordon Gresham named as Tour’s 2016 Volunteer of the Year.

Gordon Gresham of Wichita, Kan. - the Head Marshall for the Tour’s Air Capital Classic - was named as the Tour’s “Volunteer of the Year” at the PGA TOUR’s Tournament Meetings on Wednesday, December 7 in Las Vegas.

"Volunteers are an integral part of every Tour event, as they not only deliver on an operations front, but also on the ability to mesh the tournament with the support of the local community,” said Tour President Bill Calfee. “Gordon has been involved with the Air Capital Classic for 21 years, and is a wonderful recipient of this prestigious award."

The Volunteer of the Year Award selection was made from a list of 2016 Volunteer of the Week award winners, of which Gresham was in part due to his efforts in making the Air Capital Classic a success. His tireless work for both the tournament and host Crestview Country Club, where he has been a volunteer for 21 years and counting, gave way to his selection as the 2016 recipient.

As Tour Volunteer of the Year, Gresham will receive $5,000 from the Tour to donate to the charity of his choice. Gresham’s choice of charity is the Wichita Family Crisis Center.

"It is such a pleasure to work with so many people who have made a tournament a success. The marshals we have are first-rate, and appreciated by the Tour players. I accept this award knowing that many volunteers are more deserving. But I am proud to be able to forward this donation to the Wichita Family Crisis Center in the name of my late wife Christina, our Air Capital Classic tournament and the Tour," said Gresham.

"We are honored that Mr. Gresham chose the Wichita Family Crisis Center to be the recipient of these funds in memory of his late wife; Christina was a volunteer and advocate for domestic violence victims in our community. It would not be possible for us to do our work without support from individuals like the Gresham’s," said Wichita Family Crisis Center Executive Director, Angela Lampe.

The 2017 event will be held at its reigning home for the last 16 years—Crestview Country Club—from June 8th to June 18th, with competition rounds from the 15th to the 18th.
